About Me

The Wright Family – Thanksgiving 2018

Hi! I am Shannon and I play pickleball. A lot. All the time. One might say, obsessively. Sound familiar?  If you are reading this, I would guess that you know what I am talking about.  Let me tell you a bit more about my non-pickleball life.  I am married to Michael Wright, who I met in a ballroom dance class when we were attending the University of Utah many years ago. We have 4 kids, James (Erica), John, Katie, and Ben. As a family we love playing board and card games and attending the theatre together. Michael got me into bike riding about 10 years ago, and we enjoy riding the trails near our home in West Jordan, Utah, and even venture out on 60+ mile day rides. My creative outlet is quilting, which I do more of in the slower pickleball winter season. I love to read, and share that love with friends in my book club that has met monthly for more than 15 years.

I have been playing pickleball for 7 years, competitively for 6. I am a 5.0 rated player and a member of Team Selkirk. Pickleball has gone from a hobby to now my career. I have been teaching for 3 years and am a PPR (Professional Pickleball Registry) Certified Instructor. I run the pickleball leagues for Salt Lake County and manage and direct pickleball tournaments for them and other organizations and businesses. I am a USAPA Ambassador and am passionate about the sport and sharing it with others. My husband supports me in my obsession and became the first USAPA Certified Referee in Utah while my daughter Katie is Vice President of the BYU Pickleball Club, a great player, referee, and tournament worker, and will someday be my women’s doubles partner.
